It’s vital that students go to school every day – even in the early years of primary school.
School is better when your child is there
Our Initiatives
Buddies Program
All children in Foundation have a Grade 6 buddy. Together they take part in activities that foster personal and interpersonal development. Big buddies are very important as they assist the little ones in settling in. They act as a support person in the schoolyard and throughout their first year at school. Buddies become very special friends and are a great support for our youngest school members.
Lunchtime Clubs
Kinglake West Primary School run lunchtime clubs that explore different interest areas – Quite time (which includes drawing and reading), coding, photography and Lego. Our clubs provide a calm space for students to gather, especially for those looking for an alternative to the playground.
Primary School Nursing Program
PSNP offers a free health and wellbeing service to all Foundation students to assist in the early identification of children with potential health and development related learning difficulties.
School Counselor
We have our school counselor on site 2 days per week. She is available to support individuals or small groups of students with social supports or other needs. She is able to support families in seeking external supports and assessments that may support their child.
State Schools Relief
Our uniform supplier ensures that all our students in need have access to FREE uniform so they can attend school in warmth and comfort promoting a greater sense of belonging and improved self-esteem.
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support
As well as our students being learners of Literacy and Numeracy, they are also learners of behaviour.
At Kinglake West Primary School, we have adopted the school-wide positive behaviour support framework that creates a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. Research shows that the school-wide positive behaviours framework is successful in reducing problem behaviour, improving school culture and increasing academic performance.
The framework teaches and reinforces positive behaviours in our students while providing targeted assistance to students who need extra support, leading to a more successful and inclusive learning community.
At Kinglake West Primary School, our behaviour expectations matrix, implemented since 2024, has been designed to include learning spaces, outside spaces, toilets and the digital world. The matrix reflects our school values . During our Welcome to West Program in Term 1 each year, students spend time learning about each of the expectations and revise what the expectations mean as required throughout the year.
Visual supports around the school further support the implementation of school-wide positive behaviour support at Newbury Primary School.
